So Much for Yankee Thrift
National Taxpayers Union notes that Rep. Chris Shays used to have one of the best records in Congress on their tax and spend scorecard. Note the past tense.
Here is a summary, according to NTU's Andrew Moylan, "From 1992 - 2000, he got an A and a Taxpayer Friend Award every year but '93 (when he got 76%). Since then, his grades have been B, B, C+, C, C-."
His declining pro-taxpayer scores match his increasing vulnerability. I'm not saying there is a cause and effect here, but you can't rule it out. Constituents who despise wasteful and bloated government have to be uneasy with his recent voting patterns.
