Top Headline of 2004 - Reagan's Death
The Drudge Report is having an online poll for the top headline of 2004. Not surprisingly, George Bush's victory is currently winning by a large margin.
Personally, I voted for the passing away of Ronald Reagan. His death, while tragic, brought me a measured amount of comfort. I know he has moved onto greener pastures and I relish in the fact that his life story was brought back into the national spotlight.
People all across the globe, not just Americans, were able to relive the 1980s and give collective thanks to a man who did so much to improve the lives of so many people.
More importantly, they were able to point to his image on the TV screen and tell their children, "That was a great man and a great president".
Communism, Keynesianism, and the national economic "malaise" were all defeated because Reagan had such strong, principled beliefs in capitalism and freedom. He was the right man at the right time, and while I am an optimistic person by nature, I fear that we will never see another man like Ronald Reagan.
He was one of a kind.
